I'd go 36, simply because I believe that the Explorer I was meant to be a 36mm watch. Looks inflated and proportionally off at 39, IMO. My opinion would be 36 or, if you find the 36 too small, then go with an older OP39 or current OP41. A number of people have strong opinions against the proportions of the 39mm Explorer I vs. the 36mm version (the modern versions of this watch). I am in the decision process whether I should buy an Explorer 39 or 36mm. Although I know, that finally I have to decide it on my own, I would be grateful for your comments on how in your opinion the size of the watches fits my wrist. I’ve owned the 36mm and much prefer the 39mm on my wrist now and I dislike big watches. I’ve often read that the proportions are incorrect on the 39mm. Too much open space blah blah.
The 36 mm was very comfortable on my smaller wrist; however, it felt too light which I associated with "cheaply built." Obviously the 36 mm is a very well built watch, but I have to be honest with my assessment. The 39 mm had more weight and the bracelet/clasp felt and looked more substantial to me. The 40mm looks much better than the 36mm, but Rolex should have went to 42mm. The 36mm looks outstanding. Whenever I see these side by side shots it reminds me why I sold the 39mm and bought the 36mm.
Yes, but if you are going to compare, 34mm vs 36mm is closer than 34mm vs 39mm of the new explorer. From what I have seen, the real life difference in size between the Perpetual and the domed bezel DJ* is very small. If you like the vintage/ classic sizing then Exp may be preferable, if you want a . No, the Oyster Perpetual is 36mm, a step up from the 34mm of the Air King. Essentially, the Explorer 114270 and the Oyster Perpetual were identical in size and movement, but the O.P. had a better bracelet, more dial choices, and was cheaper.
