The Rolex movement is designed to have the date inset quite a bit on the dial, so there's room for the cyclops. It looks out of whack with the date so far towards the middle and no cyclops. FWIW, that's why the original SeaDwellers had a smaller dial than the Submariner Dates.

From its perfectly proportioned case to the iconic Cyclops lens, every element serves a purpose while contributing to the watch’s timeless appeal. To me, a Datejust has to have a touch of bling to it, and I think the cyclops adds just enough. Even if it's the less blingy smooth bezel, oyster bracelet Datejust, the cyclops adds a bit of reflection to the crystal, and a bit of character to the watch.
