Opening a Rolex case back with a screwdriver. To open a Rolex case back, you cannot use a regular tool such as a wrench. Instead, you need a special, specific tool for the purpose.
Although it sounds (and looks) a bit crazy to the outside world, a rubber ball (mine is green) about three inches across, can be used to open many threaded casebacks. One simply presses the green rubber ball hard into the caseback (to which it supposedly sticks) before twisting in a counter-clockwise direction. 1) Roll a piece of duct tape, sticky side out and stick to the back of the case. Use said duct tape to twist off caseback. 2) Use dishwashing gloves to grip and twist the caseback off.
Use your thumbnail to pry the back from a cheap or simply-designed watch. Alternatively, use a razor blade if your thumbnail is too short. Press a soft, tacky rubber ball against the back of a screw-back watch and twist counterclockwise to loosen the watch. There is absolutely nothing wrong with opening a Rolex caseback if you have the correct dies and tools and you have reasonably good coordination. Get the cheap stuff and you'll slip and scratch for sure.
