What is physical activity? Well, it’s anything the body does – think exercise or any kind of moving – that requires energy. This use of energy is more than good for the body, it’s necessary. So, the question becomes, “How do I get started?” Below is a brief guide to physical activity that you can make your own. Just get out there, and have fun!
Get moving. That’s it. There are a ton of things you can do to keep up with, or start physical activities. Some examples of easy activities are: walking the dog, going for walks in general, playing tennis with friends, jogging, swimming, or going for a bike ride. Now these activities don’t have to be done perfectly and you don’t have to be the next Wimbledon champion, but they are ideas of things you could do.
Don’t take too much on too fast; any amount of physical activity is better than none. Remember that it’s ok to be starting out – start out by doing activities for 10-15 minutes at first, and then add time as you progress.
Make it your own. Finding something that you enjoy doing will help you to remain active. Try different things and figure out what fits you the best. It’s important to include aerobic and strengthening exercises also, but there are so many options out there that it should be easy to find some exercises you enjoy.
Even researching physical activity is a great start! I know that these are very brief steps to take, but think of it as the summary as opposed to an analysis; you have to start somewhere. There are several other very helpful articles that you should take a look at to help further you along. Here are some recommendations that are found on this site:

Beginning to be active is a wonderful thing, but remember that it’s not something you have to do alone. Grab a friend or partner, and find something you both like to do; having someone else there is one of the best ways to stick with an exercise program. Try new things out, figure out what works for you, and stay motivated! This is the beginner’s guide to physical activity, but you’ll be well on your way soon. Good luck!
